Church of Hagia Sophia

Agia Sofia is situated at a high point of the upper city of Monemvasia. It was first unhabited in the 6th Century AD and at its high in the 8th Century housed 25,000 inhabitants. The recently restored buildings leading up to the church well illustrates the morphology of the buildings. The church itself is a jewel of Byzantine architecture. The sweeping view of the lower town is overwhelming and gives the feeling and sensation of flying like a priviledged eagle.
